Altai Point is a wonderful base from which to enjoy the festival. Located outside of Ölgii, the intimate camp houses ten gers and two female and two male toilet and shower blocks. Each of the gers are raised on wooden decks and hold three single beds and some practical furniture. The gers surround the larger, communal dining ger which also has a small grassy square in front of it where a campfire can be lit in the evenings. The design of the Mongolian ger has remained virtually unchanged for centuries. It consists of wooden lattice walls, usually in four or five sections, which are linked and tied together, with a door facing south. Two large central poles support a round ceiling opening, which is kept in position by many long poles that fan out as a roof and attach to the top of the wall sections. This wooden frame is then covered with felt, tarpaulin and a linen cover, all tied down with animal-hair rope. A stove is then placed in the middle of the ger, with the chimney coming out through the central roof hole. Enjoy this very unique experience as you also soak up the warm hospitality of your hosts.
