Example Itinerary
This is an example itinerary. Our experts have all travelled widely in the region and will be happy to tailor any of our itineraries to suit your tastes and budget, or build a trip from scratch.
Day 1 Kathmandu – Bhaktapur: Arrival
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer on to your comfortable boutique hotel in Bhaktapur. The heritage hotel is in keeping with the Newari-style and is influenced by the rich art and architecture of the ancient city of Bhaktapur.
Day 2 Bhaktapur: Historic City & Pottery Class
Spend the day in Bhaktapur, a relaxed and gentle city, reminiscent of Kathmandu in days gone by. With your guide explore some of the finest examples of Newari stone, wood sculptures and architecture in Nepal set along the main squares and back streets where you will find everyday traditional life. Walk along the cobbled streets to visit the Lion Gate, the Art Gallery, the famous Golden Gate and the Palace of Fifty-five Windows. The region is also known for its pottery and this afternoon you will head to nearby Thimi where you can see the potters at work before trying your hand at making a pot.
Day 3 Bhaktapur: Namobuddha Hike
Today will be spent hiking to Namobuddha (1,700m), a sacred site steeped in legend which draws reverent pilgrims from far and wide. Begin with an hour's drive to the trek's starting point, Tudhikhel (1,600m) from where a rough trail climbs steeply to Kavre, a substantial village which lends its name to this district. Pass through forested areas and scattered villages inhabited by various ethnic groups. Depending on the weather, you may have good views of Gang Chenpo (6390m), Dorje Lhakpa (6990m), Purbi Chyachu (6658m) and Gauri Sanker (2145m) peaks. After around 3-4 hours you will reach Namobuddha where a small village surrounds the stupa and the top of the hill is adorned with prayer flags, chortens and a monastery. Legend has it that a Boddhisatva sacrificed himself here to a starving tigress to feed her and her cubs.
Day 4 Bhaktapur – Pokhara: Overland Journey
An overland route today takes you to Pokhara. Travelling by road enables you to witness the stunning natural beauty of the countryside as well as experiencing village life as you make stops along the way for tea and lunch. Lying along the shores of Phewa Tal, Nepal's second largest lake, Pokhara sits in the shadow of the impressive “Fishtail” mountain of Machhapuchhare and is surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Annapurnas. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the lake shores.
Day 5 Pokhara: Peace Pagoda, Waterfall & Bazaars
This morning you will go on a tour of the World Peace Pagoda, built by a Buddhist monk from Japan, greatly inspired by his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi and devoted his life to promoting non-violence. This afternoon, visit Devil's Fall steeped in legend and mystery. Next, view the impressive Seti River, which flows right through the city, from Mahendra Pul bridge. Continue to Pokhara's traditional, colourful bazaar and one of Pokhara' s most important shrines, dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati, yet another manifestation of Shakti. Finally, visit Phewa Lake, the second largest lake in the kingdom, where you can take a boat across the water or visit the island temple in the middle.
Day 6 Pokhara - Seti River Camp: River Rafting
After breakfast transfer through the countryside to Damauli. Meet your experienced boat crew for a briefing before taking to your raft down the Seti River. The river and surrounding valley has no road access so it remains unspoilt and floating down the river gives you a chance to see village life along the banks as well as the abundant variety of birds. Stop en route for a picnic lunch and then tackle the rapids, no more than grade 2 and no longer than 50 metres. Following approximately 3 hours of rafting and floating, you will arrive at your safari style tented camp.
Day 7 Seti River Camp - Gai Ghat – Chitwan: Jeep Safari
The morning is spent rafting, with more class 2 rapids along the way but, again, no longer than 50 metres. The rest of the journey you will float leisurely past the surrounding countryside. Once back ashore, you will transfer to the rich landscapes of Chitwan National Park and the Barahi Jungle Lodge. Nepal’s first national park, Chitwan has had success at recovering the one-horned rhino and Bengal tiger populations. It is also home to wild elephant, leopards, sloth bears, langurs and deer. This afternoon you can head out on a safari to spot some wildlife as they become active before dusk.
Day 8 Chitwan: Bird Watching & River Trip
This morning you will embark on a nature walk in the park, the perfect opportunity to discover some of the rich varieties of birds that call Chitwan home. With over 270 different species recorded here, the park is a real bird watchers paradise. This afternoon then provides a chance for a gentle canoe ride down the Rapti River, the perfect setting from which to observe life along the banks, with mugger and gharial crocodile's regular visitors to the water's edge.
Day 9 Chitwan – Kathmandu:
This morning provides an opportunity to embark on one last safari in Chitwan National Park, hopefully spotting some of the elusive wildlife, early morning is the ideal time to be out in the park catching the animals while still active. After breakfast drive through the countryside to Kathmandu, the nation’s capital, check-in and enjoy some free time at your heritage hotel. Dwarika’s is a stunning heritage property of handmade bricks, beautifully carved woodwork and 16th Century windows.
Day 10 Kathmandu
Head out into Kathmandu today to see the historic architecture as well as religious monuments and the various neighbourhoods, each with their own thriving community. Visit Durbar Square, an area of royal palaces and temples, carved from wood and dating back hundreds of years. From here walk up Asan, the main market street of the city and still home to a bright, colourful bazaar before heading up to Swayambunath, the Monkey Temple. This bright white stupa sits atop a hill adorned with prayer flags and is home to many monkeys. In the afternoon, you will tour around Patan, a city of arts and architecture founded in 250 A.D. SeeDurbar Square, the Royal Baths, Mahaboudha, and one or two of the temples. Finally, you will visit the Patan Museum, set within the former Malla residential palace.
Day 11 Kathmandu: Departure
Depart for the transfer back to Kathmandu Airport for your onward international flight.

Positive Impact of this Trip
Making a Difference
Community Tourism
People and local communities have always been at the heart of Wild Frontiers and the travel experiences we offer. Through community tourism we have the opportunity to generate real positive impact, supporting people we visit through sustainable local development, and in turn help to alleviate poverty and protect culture and environments in often more vulnerable destinations. While doing so, our clients gain richer travel experiences and more meaningful connections with the people they meet.
Conservation and Climate Action
As a travel company, we hold a responsibility to minimise our environmental footprint and contribute to sustainability, and work closely with local communities to support their efforts. By implementing initiatives such as carbon measuring, tree-planting, reducing single-use plastic and promoting eco-friendly practices, we can help mitigate the negative impacts of tourism on fragile ecosystems and local communities. Additionally, prioritising conservation efforts helps preserve natural habitats and wildlife, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the wonders of our planet.
Wild Frontiers Foundation
The Wild Frontiers Foundation aims to provide a platform to create awareness, raise money and deliver funding to projects in countries where we operate as a travel company. Through the foundation, we are able to channel money into grass roots projects, which we have either established ourselves or support through charity partners. These include initiatives focused around education, the empowerment of local people and community conservation.
