Kalahari Plains Camp is situated in the remote north eastern part of the diverse Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the largest conservation area in the country. The camp is comprised of seven double or twin rooms and one two-bedroom family unit, all of which have thick canvas walls and roofs with timber frames. The canvas is insulated to ensure rooms stay cool in summer and warm in winter; a big selling point as, being the desert, extremes of temperature can be an issue. The whole camp has been raised up off the desert floor so a cooling breezes flows through cooling the camp during summer. The main part of the lodge houses the lounge and dining area and a separate pool deck. The camp is renowned for offering some of the best Green Season (December to March) game viewing in Africa, as the onset of the rains makes this the best time for the animals to give birth and rear their young. Of course, this brings the predators out to hunt such as the iconic black-maned Kalahari lions. Another possible sighting is the elusive, but no less impressive, honey badger.
