The five-star Taj Connemara in Chennai is the only heritage hotel in the city. The 160-year-old property once belonged to Baron Connemara and its history is displayed in the hotel with old portrait paintings and period antiques. The art deco architecture and style are infused with a modern design, providing comfortable rooms and suites. The colonial wing features more period furniture and classical design, and rooms face the pool or garden. There is also a fitness centre and spa for rejuvenation after or before a long flight. The famed dishes of Chettinad are served in a Chettinad Mansion style restaurant, whilst Anglo-Indian cuisine is provided in the Verandah restaurant and afternoon tea in the Lady Connemara Bar & Lounge.
