Mawamba Lodge is a 30-year-old, rustic eco-lodge in Tortuguero National Park, a short boat ride from Tortuguero town. Their superb guides will help you get the most from your time exploring the area’s maze-like lagoons, wildlife-rich rainforest and turtle beaches. Mawamba consists of 58 simple but comfortable rooms. Choose from a standard room or Japanese-style superior room, all without air-conditioning. Buffet meals are served at the family-style poolside restaurant which is very close to the beach, whilst the café serves drinks and snacks. When not exploring, it’s nice to relax by the swimming pool and look out for the iguanas that roam the gardens, unwind on the hammock river pontoon or play a game of beach volleyball. Within Mawamba’s grounds are butterfly and frog gardens, and the beach is just a short stroll away (swimming is prohibited) where turtles nest between July and October. For a more private dining experience, there is a dining barge with a restaurant and toilets, providing a romantic lunchtime or sunset meal. We recommend checking out tree frog walkway beside the pool.
