Where To Go In June

Peru

June falls in the dry season in Peru, which means sunshine, blue skies with comfortable temperatures in the day and chillier evenings. This is a great time to enjoy all the natural splendours of Peru, hike to see Machu Picchu or witness a festival, as June is festival month. One festival we'd recommend is the Raymillacta Festival in Chachapoyas, a celebration of ancient traditions and customs of the 'Warriors of the Clouds'.

June brings hot, humid and dry weather throughout Borneo, so it's an ideal month to explore and make the most of the abundant wildlife. The Dayak people in Sarawak celebrate their harvest festival, Gawai Dayak annually in June

Albania

Early June is one of the best times to experience Albania, especially if you want to enjoy walking or cycling in the gorgeous countryside. Towards the end of the month, things definitely heat up, but head to the coast to get a taste of the country's lush Mediterranean beaches. If you like jazz music, check out Tirana's Nyou Festival, a music festival dedicated to Balkan jazz.

Romania

May can be quite a rainy month in Romania, so by June, summer officially begins and things are infinitely drier and warmer. There should also be less crowds than the upcoming months, perfect for cultural sightseeing. The countryside will be awash with greenery and flowers so be sure to get out into nature. Head to Sibiu in mid-June for the International Theatre Festival, an open-air event offering music, dance, theatre and art.

Georgia

You'll want to avoid peak summer in Georgia as it can get unbearably hot, but June falls just before the temperatures shoot up along with the rush of Georgian tourists. Temperatures are warm, but moderately so, perfect for taking in the city sights and for exploring the countryside. The wildflowers are in full bloom at this time and you can venture to the mountains without the worry of encountering snowy conditions.

Armenia

Head outdoors if you plan on visiting Armenia in June, when the days are long, the temperatures are balmy and there's little chance of rainfall. At least, not enough to ruin frolicks in the country's verdant landscapes. If it does get too hot in the lower regions, you'll want to head to the mountains and lakes anyway, so make the most of these conditions with watersports on Sevan Lake, or other outdoor activities.

Kazakhstan

The high season in Kazakhstan begins in July, when costs and temperatures go up. However, if you choose to visit in the month of June, you'll still experience nice warm temperatures without it being scorching. Luckily, Kazakhstan experiences very little rainfall throughout the year so this won't pose a problem. The mountains are particularly lush and the steppes beautiful at this time of year.

Tajikistan

It can get stiflingly hot in Dushambe in the summertime, usually from July, and if you're planning on heading to the mountains, you want to avoid winter when many mountain passes become inaccessible. June provides a happy medium from these extremes, so wandering the city and sightseeing won't be unbearable and many outdoor activities can be enjoyed! At higher altitudes, the temperatures will drop at night though, so pack something warm for cooler evenings.

Kyrgyzstan

No visit to Kyrgyzstan is complete without spending the majority of your time outdoors, amongst its gorgeous landscapes, which is why a summer trip is essential. Low rainfall and warm temperatures means nights spent in yurts will be comfortable, carpets of wild flowers are in full bloom and it's peak trekking season (though it gets far busier in July and August). Take layers for chillier evenings, but overall, summer is a rewarding time to visit.

Israel

Although it can get quite hot in Israel in June, it does mean you'll find less tourists at popular sites, which makes it a good month to visit if you don't mind the heat and long days of bright sunshine. It's also a perfect time to hit the beaches. The evenings do cool down though so pack plenty of sunscreen for the day and something to keep you warm at night. You can check out the Caesarea Jazz Festival at this time, too.
