Girl's Football Coaching
Laos
The Wild Frontiers Foundation works with Lone Buffalo, a community based project in Laos, to promote gender equality, self-confidence and well-being through a girls’ football coaching programme.
The programme, which has been developed under the guidance of FIFA trained local coaches, also aims to encourage social integration and develop an understanding between different ethnicities. Lone Buffalo uses football as an incentive to attract more females to study at its English Development Centre, promoting health and fitness among young females.
The first Wild Frontiers Foundation sponsored young female football coaches started putting their charges through their paces during Saturday training sessions in Phonsavan, northern Laos, in November 2016. The coaching sponsorship continues to offer more girls the same opportunities.
Miss Phetvanee is Kicking Goals!
A graduate of the Lone Buffalo Female Football Coaching Programme, sponsored by the Wild Frontiers Foundation, was invited to train with the Lao National Women’s Football Team!
Miss Phetvanee, 16, who had been training and playing football at Lone Buffalo in Phonsavan for three years, was selected for the coaching programme in March 2019. She impressed the technical staff from the Lao Football Federation so much that she headed for the country’s capital, Vientiane, to train with the national team.
This is another fantastic example of how, through the collaboration of our charity partners, we can help create life changing opportunities for young people from poor rural communities.
