Joali, Muravandhoo Island Raa Atoll
Joali
Hotel Rating
Our rating: Luxury | Property style: Resort
The stunning art-immersive Joali is an experience like no other. ‘Joali’ holds a similar meaning in Dhivehi to a hammock or deckchair, and the theme of peace and relaxation is at the heart of every design aspect of the property. As you arrive by seaplane, the stunning arrival jetty sets the tone for an exotic and creative stay, looking almost like a manta ray gliding through the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean as it welcomes you to the island. But don’t be deceived by this grand welcome, as the rest of the resort is surprisingly understated in comparison. With a focus on sustainable luxury, the resort has been built around the island’s flora and fauna, making sure to have as little impact as possible on its surroundings, even building the overwater villas in different sizes so as not to disturb the coral. Although also a stunning retreat for couples and friends, the resort offers an extensive array of options for families, with multi-bedroom villas and numerous family-friendly activities. Villas are a mix of land-based or overwater, most with a pool and private decking, each with their own unique design. There’s a choice of four different restaurants with a range of cuisine, as well as a relaxing whisky lounge and artisanal chocolate and ice-cream store. Make sure to try the overwater restaurant Saoke which hosts a fabulous 7 course Sake pairing tasting menu.
