Day 1 ARRIVE BOGOTA
Upon arrival to Bogota you will be met at the airport and taken to the five-star four seasons hotel. The rest of the day is then free to rest after the long arrival flight and perhaps go for a wander around the city centre.
Day 2 BOGOTA
Enjoy a full day city tour of Bogota today, visiting the city’s architectural and artistic highlights including the centuries-old buildings of the historic centre, known as Candelaria, and the newer street art around the area. Also in Candelaria are the exquisite Gold Museum, housing 35,000 pieces of pre-Colombian gold work, and the Botero museum, which holds the largest collection of artwork from Colombian sculptor and painter, Fernando Botero. For some cultural insight, your guide will take you around one of the country’s most important markets, Paloquemao market, where 750 merchants and a labyrinth of stands offer a large variety of local produce and flowers (one of Colombia’s biggest exports) for sale. A must-do whilst in the capital is the hilltop look-out and monastery of Monserrate, reached by either funicular railway or cable car. From the highest point, you will be able to see the city of Bogota nestled within the Andes mountains and all its different neighbourhoods.
Day 3 BOGOTA - YOPAL - LOS LLANOS
A morning flight today takes you to the small city of Yopal on the border of the country’s remote western region. From the airport, you will then journey around two to three hours into the Llanos plains to your luxury tented camp. There rest of the day will be spent relaxing amongst the tropical, savannah surroundings and enjoying a welcome excursion and scenic meals.
Day 4 LOS LLANOS
Prepare for a full day of activities today completely immersing you into what the region has to offer. After breakfast this morning, head out on a wildlife excursion by 4x4 similar to an African-style safari. As you traverse the tropical lowland plains, your cowboy guide will be on hand to answer any questions about the region’s flora and fauna. After a break for lunch back at the camp, this afternoon provides time for the ultimate cowboy experience, horse riding. Set off with your Llanero guides to explore areas that become inaccessible to vehicles during the flooding of the rainy season. The evening is free to rest and enjoy dinner back at the camp.
Day 5 LOS LLANOS - MEDELLIN
This morning there is time for a cultural tour to learn the traditions and lifestyle of the Llanero culture. Music, singing and dancing are a pivotal part of country living here in the Llanos. To accompany the merriment, you will sit down to enjoy a typical mamona barbeque complete with shots of aguardiente. Following the traditional festivities, you will be transferred back to the airport in Yopal for your evening flight to Medellin. After a late arrival, you will head straight to your city hotel for a good night’s sleep.
Day 6 MEDELLIN - HACIENDA LA SIERRA
After an early breakfast, your driver will transfer you around an hour and forty minutes out of the city to a secluded coffee farm and hacienda. Arriving in later in the morning, you will have the chance to freshen up before enjoying a tour of the coffee plantation and premium coffee tasting. Then tuck into a cooking class with one of the kitchen’s excellent chefs before sitting down to your homemade meal. The rest of the day is then free to enjoy the ranch and tranquil surroundings.
Day 7 HACIENDA LA SIERRA
Enjoy a leisurely walking tour or hike through the hacienda’s own trails, stopping for a gourmet picnic prepared and set up by the hacienda’s restaurant. The afternoon is at leisure. The area is home to many bird species and the grounds make self-exploration very easy; alternatively, a range of other activities around the area can be arranged.
Day 8 HACIENDA LA SIERRA - CARTAGENA
After breakfast transfer back to the airport in Medellin for your direct flight to Cartagena, the northern jewel. Cartagena has a long and colourful history; it was the Spanish colonialists most important trading port, and its grandeur and importance lives on today. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you the high-end, boutique Casa San Agustin hotel. This evening, one of the city’s famous horse-drawn carriages will take on a panoramic tour of the walled city centre before dropping you off at one of the city’s best bars atop the historic walls for sunset cocktails over the Caribbean sea.
Day 9 CARTAGENA
A full day with your guide gives you the chance to weave in and amongst the colonial buildings of the historic centre learning about their deep roots and history. Of noteworthy interest are the wonderfully preserved churches, convent and fortress. There will also be a stop at the fascinating Historic Museum of Cartagena to learn about the city’s troubled history. For lunch, a five-course tasting menu at one of the city’s most loved restaurants is included, giving you a flavour for Colombia’s Caribbean cuisine.
Day 10 CARTAGENA
A full day at leisure today allows you time to independently explore the UNESCO World Heritage city. Making a Difference
Community Tourism
People and local communities have always been at the heart of Wild Frontiers and the travel experiences we offer. Through community tourism we have the opportunity to generate real positive impact, supporting people we visit through sustainable local development, and in turn help to alleviate poverty and protect culture and environments in often more vulnerable destinations. While doing so, our clients gain richer travel experiences and more meaningful connections with the people they meet.
Conservation and Climate Action
As a travel company, we hold a responsibility to minimise our environmental footprint and contribute to sustainability, and work closely with local communities to support their efforts. By implementing initiatives such as carbon measuring, tree-planting, reducing single-use plastic and promoting eco-friendly practices, we can help mitigate the negative impacts of tourism on fragile ecosystems and local communities. Additionally, prioritising conservation efforts helps preserve natural habitats and wildlife, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the wonders of our planet.
Wild Frontiers Foundation
The Wild Frontiers Foundation aims to provide a platform to create awareness, raise money and deliver funding to projects in countries where we operate as a travel company. Through the foundation, we are able to channel money into grass roots projects, which we have either established ourselves or support through charity partners. These include initiatives focused around education, the empowerment of local people and community conservation.
