The World Nomad Games announced in Turkey
The dates for the World Nomad Games, which usually take place every two years, have been officially announced. Central Asia’s answer to the Olympics will be staged from 29 September to 02 October 2022 at the lakeside setting of Iznik in northern Turkey (below). The games were originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but were cancelled due to Covid, meaning this year’s games are the most eagerly awaited since the inaugural games in Kyrgyzstan in 2014.
The World Nomad Games is a celebration of nomadic traditions around the world, and in the sporting action athletes compete in sports including archery, horseback wrestling, bone throwing, eagle hunting and kok-boru – probably the most famous, and exciting, sport, which is a polo-like game played with a headless goat carcass. Whilst the Central Asian countries, or so-called ‘Stans’, make up most of the competitors, at the last nomadic games athletes took part from as far away as Zimbabwe and the USA, and Wild Frontiers arranged the travel for a small team of Canadian competitors at the last games in 2018.
Wild Frontiers offers the 11-day Turkey: World Nomad Games group tour which spends three nights in Iznik for the games, as well as visits to Cappadocia, Istanbul, Ankara, Gordion and Avanos from £2,475, departing September 24, 2022.
This tour has proved so popular that we're only one spot away from being fully booked for this year, but if you'd like to be notified as soon as we have new tour dates for the 2024 World Nomad Games, then please email us at info@wildfrontiers.co.uk with World Nomad Games 2024 as the subject title and we'll add you to the waitlist.
