Katie discovered her love for travel after completing university, when she set off on a 4-month trip to explore several countries in Southeast Asia with her twin sister. She relished every moment, from sampling street food in Penang (Malaysia), taking in the awe-inspiring sights of the Bayon Temple at Angkor (Cambodia), and hearing Gamelan music being performed in Ubud (Indonesia). She also spent a few months in Argentina before embarking on a solo trip around northern Colombia, where she learnt about the history and culture of this fascinating country.
Katie joined Wild Frontiers back in 2018 and specialises in the Caucasus and Central Asia - regions that are both very special to her. She now tries to get away as much as possible during her annual leave, and has recently had the opportunity to visit Portugal, Mauritius and Sweden!

Favourite city?
In 2017 I spent 4 months living with my godfather in in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have so many fond memories, including my attempts to learn the famous Tango (it’s harder than it looks!) and trying all the different variations of the Empanada. The city has a number of interesting ‘barrios’ to explore - I stayed in San Telmo, with its boho vibes and vibrant arts scene, and I also loved colourful La Boca, riverside Puerto Madero, and the trendy Palermo with its multitude of bars and shops.
Favourite country?
Cambodia - I fell completely in love with this country and its people. I spent most of my time here volunteering at a school in Siem Reap, so I am desperate to go back and explore the Cardamom Mountains and the beaches in the south.
Favourite meal?
Khinkali - Georgian dumplings (inserts drool emoji)
Most memorable journey?
I recently returned from a 3-week trip in Central Asia, and a highlight for me was our journey over the Shakristan Pass (2800m) and up into the Fann Mountains in Tajikistan. The dramatic peaks and sparkly blue lakes made the scenery spectacular!
Favourite travel advice?
Research the destinations you are going to and try to learn a little bit of the language, even if it is just a few phrases - the locals will really appreciate it.
Next on the must-see list?
I am heading off to South Africa soon on a horseback safari, which is something I have always wanted to do! Also high on my list are Albania, Japan and Norway.
