An educational and inspiring journey across India’s fabulous “Land of Kings”, this family adventure through the diverse and colourful landscapes of Rajasthan will take in some of the most impressive forts and palaces in India. Beginning in Delhi you’ll have a chance to explore the bustling Chandi Chowk by cycle rickshaw, before driving on to Agra and the fabulous marble grandeur of the Taj Mahal, one of the world’s most perfect buildings. Stay in a heritage hotel in rural Chambal, walk through the village and take a boat safari before heading to the wilds of Ranthambore National Park, home to tigers, leopards and sloth bears. In the “Pink City” of Jaipur you will visit the amazing Amber Fort, explore the colourful markets and learn to cook curry with an expert. The journey ends amongst the palaces of Udaipur, Rajasthan’s fabulous Lake City where you will learn the art of miniature painting and head out on a sunset boat ride.

Example Itinerary
This is an example itinerary. Our experts have all travelled widely in the region and will be happy to tailor any of our itineraries to suit your tastes and budget, or build a trip from scratch.
Day 1 Delhi: Arrival
Arrive at Delhi airport and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel. Have an afternoon guided city tour, visiting the main cultural and historical sites of this fascinating city, including a cycle rickshaw ride around the old town.
Day 2 Delhi – Agra: Cycle Ride & Taj Mahal
This morning you will transfer to Agra with your driver, where after lunch you will head to the nearby villages and take a cycle ride along the lanes, passing paddy fields and farmyard animals. Stop at a secret spot to take in the views of the Taj Mahal. Later this afternoon your local guide will take you to visit the famous Taj Mahal for sunset, a fantastic time to visit the mausoleum as the marble takes on the gold and pink hues of the sky.
Day 3 Agra – Chambal: Village Walk
An hour or two’s drive south of Agra is the rural village of Mela Kothi from where you will explore the surrounding villages and experience the wildlife on the Chambal River. Your heritage hotel is set in large gardens, great for exploring. Set out on a village walk in Holipura with a member of the community, here there are a number of traditional havelis built over the centuries and excellent examples of the region’s architecture. Visit a local home for refreshments before heading back to the hotel for dinner out in the garden and an evening by the fire.
Day 4 Chambal: Boat Safari & Temples
Head this morning to the Chambal River and board a small boat for a river safari. The calm waters of the Chambal are home to a number of birds, reptiles and mammals which your naturalist will help you to spot. Turtles, gharials and occasionally the Gangetic Dolphin can be seen as well as cranes, kingfishers, stilts, plovers, eagles, vultures, cormorants and grebes amongst others. Nearby on the banks of the Yamuna River is the town of Bateshwar, visiting this afternoon you will see the collection of more than 40 temples along the river ghats, wander along the banks to see the temples with the locals who come each day.
Day 5 Chambal – Ranthambore: Rajasthan Countryside
You will drive through the countryside of Rajasthan today passing villages and towns on your way to Ranthambore, stop off to take photos, enjoy a cup of tea and some lunch before arriving mid-afternoon to your hotel.
Day 6 Ranthambore: Tiger Safari
Today you will explore the wilderness of Ranthambore National Park in search of the Bengal Tiger, as you are taken on morning and afternoon game drives, accompanied by a naturalist. Ranthambore National Park is centred around the 10th century Ranthambore Fort, which you will also visit today, and is one of India’s most picturesque parks, home to the elusive tiger, as well as many other species of wild animals including sloth bears, chital deer, wild boar, caracal, monkeys, leopards, crocodiles, jackals, jungle cats, Indian Fox, and numerous species of birds, providing fantastic wildlife viewing experiences.
Day 7 Ranthambore – Jaipur: Old City
This morning you will have your final safari giving you another chance to track and see some of India's most impressive animals. After breakfast you will journey from the wilds of Ranthambore to the colourful streets of Jaipur, enjoy some time at leisure to wander through the old city.
Day 8 Jaipur: Rickshaw Ride & Crafts
An early start today will see you heading out on a guided e-rickshaw tour with the Pink City Rickshaw Company, head through the quiet streets as you see the city waking up and the residents heading to work and opening businesses, visit the flower market as well as temples and stop for a cup of chai. The company is an initiative employing local women in an industry where they are rarely seen and a culture where it is hard for women to earn their own salaries. For those families looking to learn more about local arts and trades, this afternoon visit the nearby village of Bagru to see the process of hand block textile printing, where you can interact with the Chhippa community and get involved in printing yourself a tablecloth or a scarf.
Day 9 Jaipur: City Tour
This morning you will enjoy visiting some of Jaipur’s major sites, taking in the Amber Fort on the edge of the city, here you will visit the intricately decorated palaces with their exquisite carvings and mirror work. Back in the city visit the fascinating old Royal Observatory, which houses the largest sun dial in the world, the City Palace Museum, the Palace of the Winds and its impressive façade. Make sure to look out for the renowned photographer Tikam Chand as you pass the Palace of the Winds - here on Jaipur's busy streets you can have a family portrait taken with a 150-year-old camera, the most beautiful and original souvenir you could ask for. This evening head to a heritage hotel to take part in a cookery class where everyone can learn how to cook a delicious curry and then enjoy your hard work.
Day 10 Jaipur – Udaipur: Hike in the Hills
A walk in the Aravali Hills this morning takes you to a remote village home to a Meena tribal settlement where you will have the chance to learn about this ancient community. Later in the day head to the railway station and board a train for Udaipur, chat with the other passengers as you pass through the Rajasthani countryside.
Day 11 Udaipur: City of Lakes & Art Class
After breakfast you will have a tour of Udaipur, the Lake City. Your local guide will take you to visit the highlights of this beautiful city, including the City Palace, which was built in 1559 A.D and sits on the edge of Lake Pichola; the Jagdish Temple and the Garden of the Maid's Honour. This afternoon take a class in miniature painting, a special art of Rajasthan.
Day 12 Udaipur: Cycle Ride & Boat Trip
Enjoy a cycle ride near Udaipur heading through villages and farmland, past palaces and lakes before enjoying a picnic in the countryside. The afternoon is then at leisure to explore the city alone before returning to the lake late afternoon for a boat ride on Lake Pichola, passing by Jagniwas Island, which is home to the famous Lake Palace Hotel.
Day 13 Udaipur: Departure
Today you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport in time to catch your onward flight.

The Claridges, Delhi
The Claridges has been a veritable treasure in Lutyens Delhi since the 1950's. Amidst the rush of new modernity, the soul of The Claridges lives on. Refurbished, redesigned and revitalized, the hotel now offers guests an experience that is new and yet so familiar. The hotel is also in an excellent location just a short auto ride from Khan Market and not much further to Connaught Place. Under current management, the hotel has a blend of tradition and modernity. Leading designers of international repute have helped enhance the heritage and elegance of this four star hotel. There are 132 different rooms and suites, all designed with an elegant blend of 19th century character and contemporary style. Wine and dine to your heart's content in the Dhaba, inspired by rustic Punjabi villages; the Jade, serving Chinese-Cantonese cuisine; Sevilla, for all your tapas needs; Pickwicks, a multicuisine buffet that is always open; Ye Old Bakery, where the corn pudding is a must try; or the Aura, a romantic, dimly lit bar. There is also a refreshing outdoor pool, indoor gym and relaxing spa to enjoy at the end of a busy day.
Khem Villas, Ranthambore
At Khem Villas, it is common to see jackals, jungle cats, hyenas, desert fox and crocodiles within the 10 acres of surrounding grasslands. The hotel has a series of cottages and tents, each with private terrace. The eight stand-alone luxury cottages are spacious and comfortable, each with an outdoor shower, a large private courtyard and veranda. The food at the camp is entirely vegetarian, cooked using mainly home-grown organic vegetables, they have their own organic dairy and bakery. It is the perfect spot to go on a wildlife safari or alternatively, relax and indulge in the Ayurvedic treatments on offer.
Khandela Haveli, Jaipur
Khandela Haveli is a wonderful three-star heritage property with plenty of charm. The time-honoured architecture, royal Rajput style, and decadent marble flooring throughout create an exotic ambiance. Each of the 22 rooms are decorated individually with simple and tasteful décor. The rooftop features a plunge pool, lounge and sunbathing area. There is also a bar and restaurant, serving local Indian dishes. This authentic Shekhawati Haveli in Jaipur provides a solid mid-range option in a nice area of town (Bani Park).
Chambal Safari Lodge, Jarar
Chambal Safari Lodge is an oasis of calm and tranquillity nestling in the midst of a sprawling 35-acre heritage plantation, surrounded by family owned farmland. Located approximately 70km southeast of Agra, it is only an hour’s drive from the Taj Mahal. The ecolodge has its own foundation which focuses on conservation of the National Chambal Sanctuary, host to the Chambal Ravines, a haven for birdlife. There are twelve rooms in total, with two located in the main house and the rest in cottages across the grounds. Experience the organic ingredients served in a delicious menu in the restaurant or by the fireside. This is all about the setting and the excursions do not disappoint with much to suit those both interested in culture and wildlife.
Ekaa Villa, Agra
Ekaa Villa aims to show guests the real Agra through delicate local cuisine, friendly hosts and unique experiences. The rooms are decorated in warm hues and have a homely, yet modern atmosphere. There are queen or king size beds available, as well as king rooms with a balcony. Sample the traditional thali in the restaurant or small outside patio. This is a small, yet characterful hotel located with attentive service.
Prem Kunj, Udaipur
Located in the hills 20 minutes drive from the centre of Udaipur, Prem Kunj is a luxury lodge with just 8 bedrooms. Each of the large rooms has individual decor with period furniture, they are bright and airy due to the large windows and doors to the balconies and each uses rich, traditional fabrics to give a welcoming ambiance. The resident chefs serve up tasty Indian and international cuisine in the dining room or under the stars, guests are welcome to head to the vegetable garden to help picking herbs and vegetables for dinner. The swimming pool and terrace offer a place to unwind as do the gardens with their views of the hills, guests can also join a yoga or meditation class or perhaps head out on a walk.
