Hustai National Park, established in 1992, is one of the best-known national parks in Mongolia. Its borders stretch from the Khentii Mountains to the Altanbulah region of Mongolia. Hustai National Park, established in 1992, is one of the best-known national parks in Mongolia. Its borders stretch from the Khentii Mountains to the Altanbulah region of Mongolia. The park houses historical stone stupas and over 200 takhi (wild horses). These unique wild horses share the park with 44 species of mammals, 217 species of bird, 16 species of fish and over 450 species of vascular plants. The wild horses were declared extinct in the wild in 1969, however in the early 1900s some horse foals had been shipped to Europe from the Gobi where they were kept in zoos and private parks. In 1992 the reintroduction of the Takhi horses begun in Mongolia when 16 horses from the Netherlands were successfully transported to Hustai Nuruu which became known as Hustai National Park.
