Kalash School Land Appeal
Devastating floods that hit the Kalash Valleys, in northern Pakistan, in July 2013 left the children of Balanguru Village without a primary school building.
Flooding destroyed much of the already fragile infrastructure including homes, communal buildings, water channels and crops. The small primary school building was washed down the valley.
While the Pakistan government agreed to provide a new building, parents and Kalash leaders were understandably concerned about re-building the school on the same exposed plot of land for fear of future flooding.
With that in mind, the Wild Frontiers Foundation set up an appeal to purchase an alternative piece of land and accommodate the primary school and its students in a much safer environment.
With the generous support of Wild Frontiers clients who had visited the people of the Kalash, we were able to hit our £5000 fundraising target and purchase the land.
The project took a lot longer than first anticipated, however classes continued in tents during the summer and in the temple during the winter, until the new primary school was ready to move into in May 2018.
The Wild Frontiers Foundation is really proud to support the people of the Kalash, a pagan community in the remote mountains of Pakistan, who have always been so kind and generous to us and our travellers.
