Classroom Sponsorship

Laos

When Wild Frontiers’ tour leader Mark Steadman helped set up Lone Buffalo, a community education venture in Phonsavan, northern Laos, our foundation was keen to become involved.

Lone Buffalo is helping to improve opportunities for young people in this rural farming community through quality, structured English study and football coaching.

Within the most heavily bomb-contaminated province in the world, the school is also involved in teaching students about UXO, unexploded ordnance awareness, which is literally lifesaving.

The Wild Frontiers Foundation started working with Lone Buffalo in 2014, offering six hours of English tuition per week for a class of 15 to 25 young people.

It has been fantastic to watch the progress and success of the students, many of which have gone on to higher education, over the years.

‘A massive thanks from all at Lone Buffalo for your continued support of Class 2A. Over the current term the class have almost completed their Advanced Beginner level course. The class will take their final exam soon – and most will move to level 3 (Elementary) – despite having an average age of 13!’ – Mark Steadman, co-founder Lone Buffalo, May 2019.

Wild Frontiers clients that travel to northern Laos have the opportunity to visit the school and meet the students.
